Abstract

There are both advantages and disadvantages in using computers as a teaching medium. Lectures, tutorials, role-plays, laboratory exercises and clinical teaching are all used successfully within medical education. It is impossible to imagine the computer replacing or even reproducing some of these teaching modes. Computers are an adjunct to our current educational methods, not a ‘better’ form of education in themselves.
It is important only to use technology where there is a demonstrable advantage over another medium.
