Abstract

The proliferation of multimedia data types in mainstream computing is providing numerous benefits to different types of users. Everyone uses multimedia: clerks in offices, executives, professionals, artists, engineers, researchers, teachers and students, in any field. Multimedia has many significant application areas in the medical and healthcare field, in markets ranging from surgery, medicine and nursing, through health and safety, emergency services, to public health education. The potential audience for multimedia communications includes medical and healthcare professionals, patients and the public. New media applications offer immense potential opportunities for innovation in communication and information dissemination, with considerable consequently benefits to client organizations and corporations, professional and public audiences, and ultimately to patient care and public health.
