Abstract

The retrospective analysis of 796 patients operated for gastric ulcer during the period 1975-1994 in the General Surgical Clinic, "Prof.dr. D. Bagdasar" Emergency Clinic Hospital showed that in 69 cases a perforated gastric ulcer was present. This study is intended to present an analysis of the risk factors in the perforated gastric ulcer based on these 69 cases. The study of risk factors which influence the postoperative morbidity and mortality was carried out by advanced statistical methods, multivariate analysis techniques.

The statistical methods revealed that the correct and early diagnosis, especially in older patients, may significantly lower the postoperative morbidity and mortality.
