Educational Tutorial for Orthodontic Patients

Abstract

The use of medical images in digital format is becoming an increasingly common practice for most medical specialities. Digital images can serve different purposes, such as developing multimedia educational material for computer-assisted education of doctors, students or patients. Integrated audio-visual resources and the possibilities users have to interact with the information they receive makes multimedia an ideal instrument through which to disseminate information and knowledge. The objective of this project was to provide a comprehensive multimedia educational material (M.E.M.) for the information of orthodontic patients about essential aspects of orthodontic treatment. An animation called  “OrthoGuide” has been developed. It provides a friendly interface for a multimedia educational material called  “Orthodontics – A Patient’s Guide”, containing essential information about orthodontic treatment, as well as other guiding information for orthodontic patients.
