Abnormalities of the lipid metabolism represent an important cardiovascular risk factor. The aim of this research was to study the epidemiology of low HDL cholesterol in a population-based sample of type 2 diabetes patients. The study group included 400 outpatients with type 2 diabetes, who had a mean age of 57.57± 10.40 years; diabetes duration was 9.91±7.45 years. Mean HbA1c was 8.9% and 75% of patients had a personal history of dyslipidemia. Mean HDL-cholesterol value was 38 mg/dl (40 mg/dl in women and 37 mg/dl in men). Factor analysis identified the following underlying factors that explained 68.4% of HDL-cholesterol variation: abdominal obesity, age, glycemic control and sex.</p>}, number={1, 2}, journal={Applied Medical Informatics}, author={ELLAHBADI, Rahul}, year={2011}, month={Jan.}, pages={66–72} }
