Focus and Scope

Applied Medical Informatics (Appl Med Inform) publishes original papers, reviews, perspectives, editorials, reports, and bibliographies in the fields of medical informatics and application of ICT in healtcare as well as in the field of methodology for medical research and clinical studies, dealing with medical data processing; medical signal and image processing; statistics applied in healthcare and medicine; information systems in health care; processing and expert systems; simulation and modeling.

Peer Review Process

Being of utter importance for filtering high quality research and for maintaining journal focus, peer review is sistematically used for all papers sent to our journal.

All papers submitted to the journal are subjected to blind, unbiased, independent critical evaluation.

The review process is as follows:

First, executive editor checks the article for its suitability to be published in the journal, according to its scope. Furthermore in this step the articles are checked for plagiarism.

Next the editor assigns the article to two independent reviewers, selected based on their field of expertise to match the content of the article, to critically appraise the paper. The reviewers are selected form our database of reviewers or requests e-mail to become reviewer are sent to experts in the field of the article. The article is sent to them and they are asked to perform the review. If they consider they don't have enough expertise on the article content, or if they decline the review, another reviewer is asked to help with the review.

Subsequently the reviewers assess the article, writes their comments to the author and to the editor and give their reccomendation.

At the end of the round of reviewing, the editor makes the decision: accept submission, revisions are required, resubmit for review, or decline submission. The decision will be sent to the author along with the comments from the reviewers and the editor. The exception from this flow is apply when the manuscript is identified with high similarity to other manuscripts/papers when the editor decline submission immediately and the article is not enter anymore in the reviewing process.

The editorial process will continue with other rounds of reviewing (in case revisions are required) till the final decision is made (to accept the article or to decline it).

Four issues per year (March, June, September and December).


Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.



This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...
